RESIDENTS in Maphisa are witnessing a shift in their livelihoods following the establishment of Village Business Units (VBUs), as the Second Republic accelerates its rural industrialisation drive.
The launch of the “Vez’ubuhle” Village Business Unit in Mahetshe Village marks a significant milestone for the largely dry region, with the project bringing renewed hope and economic opportunity to the community.
Villagers say the initiative is already making a tangible difference.
“We want to thank our President for bringing this project here. It will help empower us,” a villager said.
“We have been seeing such projects happening in other areas. We did not expect that we would get to witness such massive projects. This shows that the Second Republic is a people-centred government,” another beneficiary said.
The Mahetshe VBU comprises horticulture and aquaculture sections, designed to support sustainable income generation and improve food security at household level.
Village head Shakespeare Ndlovu said the initiative aligns with broader government efforts to uplift rural communities through inclusive development.
“We just cannot thank the President enough. He has done a lot of development in this area. Talk about roads, schools, we now have it all. Then there is this project of Village Business Units. We have been taught how to run them so that we make profits and establish profits from a variety of crops that we will grow in our horticulture section,” he said.
The rollout of VBUs across the country is part of a wider strategy to drive rural transformation, enhance productivity, and create sustainable livelihoods in line with Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
